XR2 Feature upgrades and Raw material photos

Hey Backers!

It's been about 2 weeks and we wanted to check in with everyone and share some news.

First, we want to share some photos of the raw materials (aluminum rods and bars). We know, it's not very exciting... BUT, believe it or not this is where it all starts before the CNC magic happens and a flashlight is born...

RAW MATERIALS

We will share more of the "cool stuff" in a future backer update, we promise. =)

BATTERY COMPATIBILITY UPGRADE 

Good news! Our team has been testing some new battery options and we are happy to announce that XR2 will be compatible with CR123 and 16340 batteries. If you're ever in a pinch and can't get to your charged up 18650 high-drain batteries, you can have the peace of mind that dropping in 2 x CR123 or 2 x 16340 will work! However, there will be a 1000 maximum lumen output with these alternative batteries. It is still highly recommended to use trusted brand name 18650 20A high-drain batteries for optimal performance;  2,000 lumens and the better run-times.

LED POWER INDICATOR UPDATE

We've made some changes to the LED battery indicator and how it will work. In the prototype model we had a dual-color LED indicator; showing only blue and red. However, we have upgraded to a tri-color RGB format for the mass production version. So now when you're using the flashlight normally or the powerbank feature to charge your mobile devices, you're going to see a solid green LED light. When you're recharging the flashlight via USB charging cable you're going to still see a blinking blue and a solid blue once it reaches a full charge. When the flashlight is down to less than 10% you're going to see red.

Funds collected! Mass Production phase begins

Hey Backers,

FUNDS COLLECTED!

Kickstarter has completed the pledge collection process and released the funds to us. We went ahead and paid the initial deposit to our manufacturing partners to begin mass production of your XR2!

DROPPED BACKERS

There were 41 backers who did not successfully complete their Kickstarter checkout and were dropped from the campaign. If you were part of this group of backers, please kindly check your Kickstarter messages as we reached out to you with instructions on how you can get back on the backer list. By following those instructions you will be locking in the stretch goals as well. Please message us back if you have any questions.

TIMELINE

The mass production and assembly phase can take approximately 75 to 90 days which does put us around our initial delivery timeline. Of course, we hope to be able to deliver sooner than later but we refuse to have our manufacturer cut any corners to speed up the process which might affect the overall quality of the flashlight.

MANUFACTURING UPDATES

As with our previous projects we are going to be sharing manufacturing photos/videos along the way. We plan to post these backer updates every couple of weeks. 

BACKERKIT SURVEYS

We are still working on setting up the BackerKit Survey + Pre-Order store and may need a couple more weeks to finalize it. Please note that this does not affect the mass production timeline.

PRE-ORDERS

If you’re just tuning in and you want an XR2 flashlight as soon as they come in. You can pre-order at special rates on our website: www.zerohourxd.com or you can wait for our next backer update when we announce the launch of our BackerKit Pre-Order Store.

APEX MINI PEN RELAUNCH

As some of you may have remembered we promised to relaunch the APEX MINI project from back in May. 

We have now officially selected a new trusted manufacturing partner and because they offered us competitive manufacturing costs, we are passing the savings down to you. The project will launch tomorrow morning MONDAY, JULY 29TH by 8AM PST. If you are subscribed to our newsletter, or you have pledged on our other ZeroHour projects, you will receive various email notifications when the project goes LIVE.

The ZeroHour XR2 campaign just closed with 716 backers and $102,803 raised!

We intend to have a speedy production and delivery process but we need your help. Kickstarter is now collecting pledges and should be done in 2 weeks. Soon after you will receive an email from BackerKit. You will be able to confirm your pledge reward and shipping address, and add additional ZeroHour products at special Kickstarter rates.

What's Next?

While our manufacturing partners are working on your XR2 flashlight, we intend to re-launch our APEX MINI Pen project. We are making a few tweaks and we hope to have it up and running again very soon.

We're glad to have achieved another successful campaign! We appreciate the Kickstarter community for believing in our vision and look forward to delivering you a ridiculously awesome flashlight.

Stretch Goal Update: Lantern Attachment at $100K

Hey Backers,

We have been testing the Lantern Attachment accessory and we really like it. The idea that the flashlight could be used as a lantern is something we wanted for the XD model many years ago but never reached that milestone. We have decided to update the Lantern Stretch Goal to $100,000. This is a more realistic and attainable goal and we think you will really appreciate this free bonus item.
